What is PTSD, and how does it affect you?

Experiencing and living with trauma can affect your entire life. It can cause a range of physical and mental symptoms, as well as lead to other conditions like anxiety, depression, substance misuse and a raft of risky behaviours. You may also find yourself withdrawing from friends, family and loved ones, and experience difficulties at work or school.

Some people report feeling tense and on edge, have difficulty concentrating or remaining present, experience sleep problems, and can struggle with emotional regulation. They may also have vivid flashbacks, intrusive thoughts and physical symptoms like shortness of breath, pain, nausea, sweating or trembling.

Sometimes, the negative impacts of trauma can surface after the event, but therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a proven and effective way to manage your experiences and get the help you deserve.

How Online Therapy Can Help Trauma & PTSD

Talking therapies for PTSD and trauma are a range of proven methods, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), psychotherapy or person-centred therapy, to help people live with their experiences and take control of their lives.

Our fully trained online therapists help you work through your trauma at your own time and pace. Everybody is different, but many people find that talking about their experiences and feelings helps them process and move on from their trauma. Others find that CBT helps them recognise and understand their thoughts to develop coping strategies.

Online trauma therapy is as effective, flexible and discreet. You don’t have to travel, there’s no waiting room, you can fit it around your schedule, and you don’t even have to turn on your camera if you don’t want to.

Online Anxiety Therapy FAQs

You don’t have to do anything to prepare. You and your therapist will work together at your own pace to help you feel better. Some people find it helpful to think about what they want to get out of therapy beforehand, but you don’t have to.

Just remember that your feelings and experiences are valid, and that our empathetic therapists understand what you’re going through.

Trauma and post-traumatic stress therapy naturally involve revisiting and talking about the trauma itself and understanding how it impacts you, to develop coping strategies. This can be difficult to face, but you can always go at your own pace, and only ever talk about what you’re comfortable with.

Unfortunately, we can’t answer that as everybody is different. It will depend on the extent of your trauma, the effects it's having, and how you and your therapist work through it. However, there is no ‘right’ length of time. It takes as long as it takes, and that’s ok.

Yes. Evidence shows that online therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face sessions. In fact, some people prefer it for the flexibility, discretion and reassurance it provides.

Therapy is a proven and effective way to treat and manage trauma and PTSD for many people, but it’s not for everyone. If it’s not working for you, there are no membership fees or minimum session limits, so you can cancel whenever you want.
